Privacy policy

1. Basic premise

The Consumer Affairs Agency (hereinafter referred to as "the Agency"), collects information on users of the Official Website of the Consumer Affairs Agency (hereinafter referred to as "the Site") for the purpose of the efficient operation of the services provided by the Site (such as provision of information, e-mail newsletter service). Information acquired will be handled appropriately within the scope of the purposes of use.

2. Scope of information acquisition

  1. (1)The Site uses the access analysis tool "User Insight" for the purpose of collecting and analyzing access logs. Such as Internet domain names, IP addresses, and access history on the Site is automatically collected.
    This access analysis tool uses cookies and stores only the "access time," or so-called time stamp information, and does not include personal information such as individual names or e-mail addresses. The information collected by this tool is managed in accordance with User Insight's privacy policy. For more information, please see "User Insight" here.
  2. (2)Cookies
    The Site uses cookies. When a user accesses the website, cookies are exchanged between the server of the website and the user's browser and are stored on the user's computer. The users can refuse collection of access logs by selecting to disable cookies in their browser settings.
    Disabling cookies does not affect your browsing of the Site. For instructions on how to set up your browser, please refer to the help page of your browser or contact the manufacturer.
  3. (3)We ask users to register their e-mail address, for the e-mail newsletter service. Regarding the handling additional information voluntarily registered such as gender, age, and other information, please refer to 3. (2) below. Additional information voluntarily registered such as gender, age, and other information will be used as reference for creating the e-mail newsletter.
  4. (4)When we solicit opinions or conduct surveys, we may ask users to register information such as name, e-mail address, gender, age, and additional information, if necessary.
  5. (5)When users apply for an event, we may ask them to register information such as address, name, occupation, and telephone number.

3. Purposes of use

  1. (1)The information collected in 2. (1) and (2) above will be used as a reference for the smooth operation of the services provided by the Site.
  2. (2)The information collected in 2. (3) above will be used for the e-mail newsletter service. Additional information voluntarily registered such as gender, age, and other information will be used as reference for creating the e-mail newsletter.
  3. (3)Comments and inquiries collected in 2. (4) may be used as a reference for our policymaking. We will refer to the registered e-mail addresses and phone numbers when replying or making confirmation on comments and inquiries. Such information may be forwarded to related departments within the Agency.
    In addition, we may make such information public in a way that does not identify specific individuals (except when we obtain the consent of the person).
  4. (4)The information collected in 2. (5) will be used only when necessary to smoothly carry out an event.

4. Limitations on use and provision

Except in the cases listed below, the Agency will not use Retained Personal Information (*) held by us for purposes other than those described in "3. Purposes of Use" or provide it to a third party.

  • (*) "Retained Personal Information" shall mean Personal Information having been prepared or obtained by an employee of the Agency, in the course of his or her duties and is held by the Agency for organizational use by its employees, however, this shall be limited to Personal Information recorded in Administrative Documents.

  2. (2)Where the Retained Personal Information is used or provided with the consent of the Individual Concerned, or where it is provided to the Individual Concerned
  3. (3)Where the Agency uses the Retained Personal Information within the Agency only to the extent necessary for executing the affairs under its jurisdiction provided by laws and regulations, and there is reasonable ground for such use of the information
  4. (4)Where the Retained Personal Information is provided to another Administrative Organ, Incorporated Administrative Agency, Local public entity or Local Incorporated Administrative Agency in which the person who receives the information uses it only to the extent necessary for executing the affairs or business under its jurisdiction provided by laws and regulations, and there is reasonable ground for such use of the information
  5. (5)Where the Retained Personal Information is provided exclusively for statistical purposes or academic research purposes, provision of the information to other persons is obviously beneficial to the Individual Concerned, or there are other special grounds for providing the Retained Personal Information

5. Measures to ensure security

The Agency takes measures necessary to manage the acquired information appropriately to prevent the leakage, and loss or destruction of acquired information.
In addition, we may outsource the operation of this website, but we require that outsourcing company take the necessary measures to properly manage the information collected.

6. Disclosure, correction, and suspension of use of personal information

The users can request the disclosure, correction, or suspension of use of Retained Personal Information collected on the Site, pursuant to the provisions of the Act on the Protection of Personal Information Held by Administrative Organs (Act No. 57of 2003). The Agency will determine whether to make disclosure decisions, and so on, pursuant to the Act.
The users can unsubscribe from the e-mail newsletter service at any time. The users can also change or correct their personal information such as e-mail address.

7. Scope of application

This privacy policy applies only to the Site. Responsibility for the handling of the information of other ministries and agencies lies in the respective organization.
